2016 IBU World Cup: Canmore

Reanimating the tradition that began with the 1988 Olympic Winter Games and the 1992 World Junior Biathlon Championships, the Canmore Nordic Centre readies itself to host yet another coveted Nordic competition: the 2016 BIATHLON WORLD CUP

Combining cross-country skiing and target shooting, biathlon poses to be an exercise of endurance, willpower, and self-discipline. Biathletes must be able to ski fast, as well as slow down their heart for the control necessary to shoot incredibly small targets – the largest targets are about the size of a DVD disc, the small targets are only about 4cm across!
Participating in 4 days of intense competition (February 4th - 7th), World Cup athletes will brave the frigid weather as they battle for victory and national glory.
Canada already has a number of medals under their belt this season, and we look forward to that number growing at World Cup Canmore!

Spectators are welcome to all events! The Nordic Centre venue offers free standing space, as well as ticketed GRANDSTAND and VIP PACKAGES!

Come take part in an inspiring evening, celebrating sportsmanship and unity as we kick off the World Cup!
Watch the Parade of Nations, listen to the Stoney First Nation drummers and dancers, and revel in the glow of fireworks!
All the action starts at 5:30pm on the 7th Avenue Pond.

Transportation to the Nordic Centre will be provided from the Canmore Visitor Information Centre, (907 7th Ave) with shuttles travelling to the Nordic Centre every 30 minutes.

Don’t forget to check out the daily events taking place during the CANMORE WINTER CARNIVAL!
