Tourism Canmore Kananaskis (TCK) is delighted to announce the appointment of Dave Rodney as Executive Director to the organization, effective April 16, 2018.

CANMORE, AB, March 28, 2018 – Tourism Canmore Kananaskis (TCK) is delighted to announce the appointment of Dave Rodney as Executive Director to the organization, effective April 16, 2018.

Rodney is an entrepreneur with a wealth of leadership and business experience. He founded SQ Enterprises International in 1999, primarily consulting on issues within the tourism, economic, and energy sectors. He was elected four times as the Member of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta for Calgary-Lougheed, and was appointed Minister of Wellness and House Leader during his long-standing tenure (2004 to 2017).

Rodney’s accomplishments are an inspiration to many: he is an educator/administrator, motivational speaker, writer, filmmaker, humanitarian, worldwide adventurer, and mountaineer. He was the first Canadian to summit Mount Everest twice. “Sherpa Dave” has advocated for dozens of humanitarian organizations over the years, earning him three Queen Elizabeth II commemorative medals (Golden Jubilee, Diamond Jubilee, and Alberta Centennial) for his contribution to public service and voluntary endeavours.

Our family chose to live in Canmore because of the beauty and importance of this unique place in Canada; and the inspirational spirit within the individuals of this forward-thinking community,” said Rodney. “I have been honoured to serve on dozens of local to international committees in the past, including six years on the Strategic Tourism & Marketing Commission (advising Travel Alberta); and I am confident with respect to tourism, the sky is the limit here! Having spent a great deal of time in Canmore/Kananaskis since the 1988 Olympics (including living here full-time in recent years and volunteering in schools, minor sports, and other organizations), I recognize that we must carefully balance many competing issues; and I am very excited about meeting with stakeholders to ensure that we do exactly that!

As Executive Director, Rodney will be responsible for the creation of a sustainable funding model for the organization while overseeing the marketing and promotion of Canmore Kananaskis as a destination. He will develop strong relationships with partner organizations, such as local and provincial government organizations, to maximize partner opportunities, efficiency, alignment, and funding potential.

Dave brings to TCK a breadth of leadership experience in a variety of areas and we are excited to have him lead our grassroots organization to grow the Canmore Kananaskis tourism brand in the domestic and international marketplaces,” said Chris Kern, Board of Directors Chair, TCK.

We’re excited at this great opportunity to work with such an outstanding professional like Dave Rodney,” said Andrew Shepherd, Board of Directors Chair, Canmore Hotel and Lodging Association. “We anticipate the same high level of world class performance at Tourism Canmore Kananaskis, as Dave has demonstrated in the past, in so many of his amazing accolades and adventures. Welcome Dave!

Rodney lives in Canmore with his wife Jennifer; and together, they co-founded the “Top of the World Society for Children”. The couple have two children, Dawson and Evan.

A meet and greet will be planned for Rodney and industry stakeholders in April.
