Canmore winters are fun and full of magic. Every February we come together as a community during the Canmore Winter Carnival to celebrate the best parts of our unique winter lifestyle. With two weeks of indoor and outdoor events and experiences, the Canmore Winter Carnival is a favourite for locals and visitors alike. Enjoy ice carving competitions, kids’ ice carving , skating parties, street hockey, log sawing competitions, the always entertaining pooch parade, art crawls and the popular Snowy Owl Kid N' Mutt races.

Saturday, February 4

Ice Carving Competition
Canmore Civic Centre Plaza
Come down and watch talented carvers as they transform blocks of ice into magnificent works of art!
 
9 – 4:30pm – Ice Carving Competition
3:30pm – Judging begins. Make sure to cast your People's Choice vote!
4:30pm - Awards


 

Sunday, February 5
11am – 4pm

Come one, come all for a great day of fun!
Canmore Civic Centre Plaza

Mountain Freezies Kids’ Ice Carving, sponsored by Valley Home Building Centre.
Time for the kids to give ice carving a go!
There will be hot chocolate, marshmallow roasting, bonfires & giant Jenga.
9 – 4:30pm

Log Sawing Competition, sponsored by WoodPecker
Join in on the action! Family challenges and timed competitions. 
11 – 2:30pm

Maple Taffy
12 – 4pm

Mut Hut Emporium Pooch Parade 
The popular Pooch Parade returns featuring local dogs and their owners wearing the latest in winter fashions.

Fundamental Elements - A Downtown Arts Experience

Artist demonstrations, interactive experiences, openings, a cabaret and more!


 

Sunday, February 12

Snowy Owl Kid N Mutt Races
Canmore Nordic Centre
*NEW this year: kids will be driving their own mini-sleds. They will be standing up and will have access to a break. Consider this when registering *
Helmets are mandatory.

9 am – 10 am Check In: 5 & 6 year old kids
10 am – 12 noon Race: 5 & 6 year old little daredevils race for first place

11 a.m. – 12 noon Check In: 7 to 9 year old kids
12 noon – 2 p.m. Race: 7 to 9 year olds turn to race down the tracks.

2 p.m. – 3 p.m. Check In: Kids – 10 to 12 year old kids
3 p.m. – 5 p.m. Race: Kids 10 to 12 year olds close the action packed kids' races

4 p.m. – 5 p.m. Check In: Family challenge
5 p.m. – 6 p.m. Race: Families compete for first place. Cheer them on as they battle it out. 

** Schedule subject to change. Weather dependent event. We will cancel the event should the conditions warrant it.**
