Canmore winters are fun and full of magic. Every February we come together as a community during the Canmore Winter Carnival to celebrate the best parts of our unique winter lifestyle. With two weeks of indoor and outdoor events and experiences, the Canmore Winter Carnival is a favourite for locals and visitors alike.

Enjoy ice carving competitions, kids’ ice carving, skating parties, street hockey, log sawing competitions, the always entertaining pooch parade, art crawls and the popular Snowy Owl Kid N' Mutt races.
Programming varies slightly year to year so be sure to check out the schedule of events and registration deadlines.

Friday, February 1
Winter Carnival Kick Off
Canmore Civic Centre
6 p.m. - 8 p.m.
Kick off Winter Carnival at the Civic Centre. Art activities and night sky interpretation walk.

Saturday, February 2
Community Winter Playday
Canmore Civic Centre Plaza
10 a.m. - 3 p.m.
Join us for a day of winter fun: kids' ice carving, bonfires, games and more. 

Mut Hut Emporium Pooch Parade
Locals dogs and their owners wearing the latest in winter fashion. 

Sunday, February 3
Snowy Owl Kid N Mutt Races & Fun at the Pond
The Pond on 7th Ave.
510 a.m. - 3 p.m.
Maple Taffy, Human Curling, Bonfires, Live Music.

Snowy Owl Kid N Mutt Races
Families or individual teams of kids and sled dogs race down the track … nail-biting action.
10 a.m. – 12 noon 5 & 6 year olds
12 noon – 2 p.m. 7 to 9 year olds
3 p.m. – 5 p.m. 10 to 12 year olds
5 p.m. – 6 p.m. Families compete for first place.

Tuesday, February 5
BMW IBU World Cup Biathlon Opening Ceremonies
The Pond on 7th Ave.
5:30 p.m. - 7:45 p.m.
A chance to see some of the world’s best Olympic Athletes before they start competing.
Live music, fireworks, the parade of nations.

Thursday, February 7
BMW IBU World Cup Biathlon Races
Canmore Nordic Centre
10 a.m. - 3:40 p.m.
Individual Men & Women
Competition schedule and World Cup events: IBU Biathlon World Cup

BMW IBU World Cup Biathlon Medal Ceremonies
Canmore Civic Centre
6:30 p.m. - 8 p.m.
IBU World Cup Biathlon medal presentation for the individual competitions.
DJ, bonfires, games.

Saturday, February 9
Ice, Logs N BeaverTails
Canmore Civic Centre Plaza
9 a.m. - 5 p.m.

Ice Carving Competition
Talented ice carvers transform blocks of ice into magnificent works of art. This year's theme: Constellations.

Yes! It's true and delicious. 

Log Sawing Competition - sponsored by WoodPecker
Will you be Canmore's fastest sawyer? Join in on the action! Team and individual timed competitions.

BMW IBU World Cup Biathlon Relay Races
