Museums make good friends. At the Canmore Museum & Geoscience Centre, a window is opened onto Canmore and its surrounding mountain landscape. Explore the people, places and stories about the town past and present – its mining heritage and the dramatic geology of the Canadian Rockies.
The Museum also oversees Canmore’s frontier landmark, the Northwest Mounted Police Barracks. This 1893 restored cabin sits on the original site and has been designated a Provincial Historic Resource.

Canmore’s frontier landmark. This 1893 restored cabin sits on the original site and has been designated a Provincial Historic Resource. Come explore the early NWMP and RCMP history in Canmore. Original artifacts that belonged to the original tenants are displayed in their original setting in this wonderful historic building. While there, relax in the Tea Room, browse through the Gift Shop, or wander through the beautiful Heritage Gardens.

The Canmore Museum & Geoscience Centre is dedicated to telling the stories of our mountains and our communities for present and future generations. Permanent displays about Canmore’s mining heritage, as well as the geology of the Rocky Mountains. Temporary displays change regularly. GST-free Gift Shop specializes in books about the region, educational and heritage toys, local art, fossils and minerals, and more. The Museum also oversees the operation of the North West Mounted Police Barracks, a designated Provincial Historic Resource, at 609 Main Street.
