Reunion, or Corporate Meeting facility, we are certain you and your
guests will love our relaxed cowboy atmosphere.
City Slickers Welcome!
Kick the City off yer boots and say howdy to the glorious cowboy
adventure awaiting you at Rafter Six (6) Ranch! Your stay can be as
rustic or luxurious as you like. There's an indoor hot tub and
swimming pool available during the summer months, and TV (if you
must!) in the common room of the Lodge. But that's not why you came
to the ranch - you came to "Cowboy Up" and the Rafter Six folk are
there to please. Pick the Trail Ride to Suit You.
The Rafter Six Lodge
Standing three stories high, this beautifully crafted log structure
is one of the largest in the World. Designed in 1977 by the current
owners, Stan and Gloria Cowley , the Lodge opened for business in
1978. The Lodge was built on to the original log lodge and houses 18
unique guest rooms, a common room, restaurant, lounge, and gift
shop. For your peace of mind, the rooms have no televisions or
phones. These amenities are available in the common areas of the
Lodge.
History of the Ranch
Horses are everywhere on the ranch, and are a constant reminder of
why the ranch came into being. In the 1880s the Northwest Mounted
Police were barely ten years old and were in constant need of horses
well suited to the rigors of the Alberta weather - and that's how
this world class horse ranch started.
Movies at Rafter Six Ranch Resort
In 1954 Marilyn Monroe needed a vehicle for her Screen debut. River
of No Return, was the feature film chosen and Robert Mitchum was
signed to be her male co-star. Rafter Six Ranch was one of the
locations for this classic western movie. Since then dozens of
feature films, documentaries, and television commercials have been
shot at Rafter Six. More about Visitors and Movies.
YOUR COWBOY ADVENTURE
The sprawling acres of Rafter Six Ranch are nestled at the base of
the Canadian Rocky Mountains, surrounded by Provincial Parkland, and
the Stoney Indian Reserve. The ranch is located where the Kananaskis
Valley and the Bow Valley meet. All Trail Rides are led by an
experience trail guide, who will point out interesting stories along
the trail, and will be happy to answer your questions. Before all
Trail Rides you will be matched with a compatible horse and given a
list of trail do's and don'ts.
1 or 2 hour trail rides, a half day ride, and an all day ride are
available for all levels of riders. For the experienced rider we
offer an Adventure Ride. And if you're up for the thrill - there's
even an overnight trail ride to feed your adventurous spirit!

The Rafter Six Ranch Church
The Rafter Six Country Church is a charmer! Reminiscent of old
country churches this hand crafted structure has grand gothic
windows and a cathedral ceiling. The rich patterns and textures of
the wood give a cozy, warm feeling. The altar features a magnificent
view of the Rocky Mountains in the Kananaskis Valley. There is also
a choir loft with a traditional church bell and a balcony for unique
photographs. The wood burning fireplace provides a pleasant
crackling and subtle scent for those cooler days.
Carriages
Horse drawn vehicles are also available for your wedding party. The
four passenger white wedding carriage is included in the ceremony
package. Also available for rent are the Democrat Carriage, or the
open wagon. All horse drawn vehicles include an experienced driver
and well trained horses. Saddle horses are also available for the
Equestrians in your party!
Our beautiful wood and stone church will seat more than 100 people.
Outdoor Chapel
The T'la T'a Dina (T'su Tina (Sarcee) Nation meaning "All Peoples")
Fresh Air Chapel was dedicated on September 1, 1979 and has since
become renowned as a unique setting for outdoor weddings. Surrounded
by a number of stately spruce trees, the chapel benches are
constructed of half logs and the alter overlooks the magnificent
Kananaskis River.
A Marriage Commisioner may be arranged through the ranch, to discuss
your special ceremony requirements.
