Legacy Trail

The Rocky Mountain Legacy Trail is a scenic 22 km paved trail that connects Canmore and Banff. The trail begins across from the Travel Alberta Visitor Information Centre on Bow Valley Trail. The Trail is popular with cyclists and hikers and has several incredible viewpoints along the way. The trail follows the Trans Canada Highway. To make this a round trip you can head back on the trail or use ROAM public transit (with your bike).

LOCATION: The Trailhead for the Rocky Mountain Legacy Trail is located across from the Alberta Visitor Information Centre at 2801 Bow Valley Trail in Canmore.  There is free parking in Canmore’s Town Centre at Tourism Canmore Visitor Information 907 7th Avenue. Starting your journey from the heart of Canmore is a perfect way to experience the Legacy Trail. There are public washrooms, a bicycle pump and maintenance stand as well as all the bicycle shops, cafes, restaurants, shopping, and services that downtown Canmore has to offer.

DESCRIPTION: A paved 22 km trail that runs along the Trans Canada Highway and connects Canmore and Banff. The trail offers numerous look-outs and incredible scenery. The Valley View Day Use area is the half-way point and an excellent picnic and resting stop.

DURATION: 2-3 Hours (one way)
