Kananaskis Wildlife Drive

One of the most spectacular drives in Alberta takes you through the heart of Kananaskis country on a three-hour loop starting in Canmore, the largest community in the Canadian Rockies, into Kananaskis Village.

The Kananaskis Wildlife Trail is a 153 km (96 mile) drive through the picturesque Kananaskis Provincial Parks. From Highway 1, take Highway 40 which plunges into the front ranges of the Rockies. Interpretive walks and pullouts, picnic areas and the Kananaskis Village line your path. The Smith-Dorrien/Spray Trail highway then travels 65 km towards Canmore through the Spray Lakes region along a high-grade gravel surface. In the summer and winter months, stop in to Mount Engadine Lodge for hikers tea every afternoon and watch moose wander into the neighboring meadow in the evenings.
