Upper & Lower Kananaskis Lake

Upper and Lower Kananaskis lakes are two beautiful, crystal clear mountain lakes in Peter Lougheed Provincial Park (part of the Kananaskis Country park system). The lake is part of a series of man-made and natural lakes created for hydro-electric power in the 1950s. Upper and Lower Kananaskis lakes can be found along Highway 40 (Kananaskis Trail) about 80 km south of the Trans Canada Highway. There are numerous hiking trails that are well-mapped and marked. Rawson Lake is a spectacular hike located on the southern edge of Upper Kananaskis Lake. There are cross-country ski trails, fishing, mountain biking, and boat launches available. Visit the nearby Visitor Information Centre on Kananaskis Lakes Trail for washrooms and maps.
